Lots of surprises, Lockhart oil cooler, disc brakes front and rear, not that it matters, no brake fluid at all!
Bad night photo of the 1980 Kawasaki CSR 1000 parked for the winter on the shed porch. Looks pretty swoopy with the clubman bars, and Plastic tail section though. Just need a big fat headlight, some rearsets, and a GOOD carb cleaning. Come spring the CHiPs paint job will be applied, creating the first ever Cafe Highway Patrol bike. Eat your hearts out Ponch and John. This is the actual model Chips used for their police bikes, so I'll have lots of reference photos.
Yeah, but its got a NAKED lady on the tank !
ReplyDeleteJust kidding, looks good, are those alloy rims?
Nope came with spokes!
ReplyDeleteI guess I mean are the hubs laced to aluminum rims as opposed to the usual chrome steel rims, they kinda look like aluminum from the pics.
ReplyDeleteYes aluminum rims
ReplyDeleteJust did an exorcism on the fairing and bags! It's not to ugly anymore.... well except for that tank artwork. More pix to come.
ReplyDeleteCSR 1000 tank is loaded with rust, it's not loose rust though, really hard and the gas was crystal clear. Very odd, I'm going to try the navel jelly, and nuts and bolts trick to try and loosen it up. Then some acid, to see if that cleans it up. Anyone have any success removing rust?
ReplyDeleteI've done nuts and bolts trick with some success. Maybe pour in a little bit of metal prep from the auto body supply, then neutralize the acid and rinse. But I think on my next tank,(the SR500) I'm going to try this stuff; http://www.metalrescue.com/home.aspx. Youtube has a few videos of exactly the kind of rust your talking about with some pretty good results. Not real cheap, but if it works....
ReplyDeleteScored an almost new set of metzler sneakers for the flying kaw. Here's the best part I'm gonna paint it to match the CHiPs bikes! Man am I going to get pulled over a lot!
ReplyDeleteWaaaaa the tank has some pin holes in the rear portion, ebay here I come, I need 2 kits of kreem so a used tank is cheaper.
ReplyDeleteI wish I never sanded off that gorgeous naked lady!
ReplyDeleteNew tank arrived yesterday very clean inside started to massage out a crease dent in the side. It's getting there slowly.
ReplyDeleteNew Cafe seat from evil bay today, big PLASTIC thing. Perfect for this warthog! Might do me some painting this weekend and start the police bike transformation!
ReplyDeleteThis beast still won't run properly, looks like I have to risk the dreaded CV Carb lobotomy!
Carbs are clean and now it actually idles just need to mount the 4 into 1 and hook up the air box
