Frankenstein CB350
Just finished hammering in the bearing races and pressing the bearings on the donor fork's steering stem for the CB. The forks were stripped from a 1987 Suzuki GS 450. I'm still amazed the bearing inner size matched. I guess you have to get lucky once in a while. New seals for the forks are next. Then trying to get a 75 CB500 wheel with front disc to squeeze into the space left between the fork legs. Here's hoping!

Argh the disc rubs the fork leg, plan B try to increase the spacer size on the disc side without stretching the forks further apart, or plan C flip the disc or plan D use the twin leading shoe original wheel
ReplyDeleteMark I have a front wheel off a early 80's Suzuki Gs300 which is the same forks. Its 18x3.00 spoked in really good condition, you can have it for shipping costs if it helps or for free if you come get it. you have to put a disk on it and the spokes are a little rusty but otherwise its perfect and even has a decent tire. If you are interested I will uploaad a pic of it later.

Excellent! I'll give it one more shot and I'll give you a shout

ReplyDeleteI just realized that the spacing of the forks and width of the axle will depend on the width of the CB triple clamp holding the forks, so using the Suzuki wheel is not a guarantee of bolt on success. Still here is a picture of the wheel I have.

HA it just may work, I'm using the Suzuki Triples on the honda, don't ask me how that happened but it fit like a dream!
ReplyDeleteOkay I give up the cb550 wheel is a bust, the disc rubs the fork leg, if I flip the disc it doesn't seat properly. Hey Sal is that GS wheel still available? If so e-mail me mjewell2@nycap.rr.com.
ReplyDeleteFrame is painted, finishing up on body smoothing, swingarm is on, new forks are installed with new bearings.
ReplyDeletehave some rearsets coming from a trashed sport bike from flea bay, and new triples, also a evil bay buy, that should be wider to squeeze in a new from wheel courtesy of Joe N. Thanks again Joe!
ReplyDeleteRearsets arrived, pretty beat up but nothing a hammer and torch couldn't fix. Cut the footpegs / kick stand apart saves about 2 lbs. keeping the kick stand, dropping the center stand, saves another couple of lbs. Curious to see how much fat I remove from his poor thing in the end.
ReplyDeleteYahhoooo, new triple arrived, now the front disc from Joe fits! Free checker stcikers for you Joe! New rear brakes ordered, gotta get some good tires and we'll have a rolling chasis! Anyone have any 19 or 18 inches tires? I have brand new 16" tires for trade!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the Anonymous tag(jnelligan)still figuring out how to post this via laptop, works fine via Android. Anyway, I've got an old CL360 in the back of the shop with literaly brand new Avon Roadrunners on it if your interested. I think that they are both 18"ers. Was that CB rim 18 or 19, I can't remember
ReplyDeleteFront is a 19 should be a 100 or 110 back is 18 with a 110 or 120
